When Creativity Strikes

Isn’t it odd how after weeks of a creativity drought an idea can slam you in the back of the head like a bolt of lightning(now my title makes sense. lol)and all the problems in your story are solved? You suddenly know how everything should fit into place like a cute little puzzle. You’re writing nonstop for three days straight on pure adrenaline and coffee and then thy well doth run dry again. It’s sort of creepy how the mind works that way. So, when I heard about Book in a Week I thought, "Impossible." It could never work because my ideas either wouldn’t come period or would wait until half of the week is done to make an appearance. My creativity never comes when I actually want it. But recently Jenna Petersen wrote a blog on myspace in which she explained how one should prepare for Book in a Week. Apparently you’re supposed to plot(stop squirming pansters! It’s only a little plotting. One week’s worth) or at least get a general idea of where you want to go with your story and then you get your life in order. You put the kids in daycare for a week, have ready-made dinners at the house for the fam, and you just make sure everything else is taken care of so all you have to worry about is tapping into that highly active creative cavern in your brain. Now don’t let the words Book in a Week scare you, because it really only promises to give you about 200 pages. That’s Half a Book in a Week. Still, not bad.I don’t know if it will work, but next week I’m giving it a shot. I’ll let you know how it goes.
And tell me: How many of you would like to join me in this self imposed challenge? Or how many of you want to give me some encouragement? This is a little scary. But it should prove to be highly entertaining.
PS: I'm gonna be sure and take a large dose of awesome before I start this;)

good luck! good luck! good luck!

and:

I'm in.

How else am I going to finish before my May 1st deadline? As long as it can be an already started book, that is...;)

It can totally be an already started book! I can't wait to see how much we get written!

Mary can attest, this is not my forté. I write at a snail pace (it should say something that writing 100 words in a day can be a challenge for me). BUT, um, I think I might also be in? I have serious doubts as to my ability to do this which could hinder me from the beginning, but I'm always up for a challenge!

I know you can do this! I second and third Mary's "good luck! good luck! good luck!" :)

I wish you luck ladies. I had enough of a challenge with the NanoWrimo last November. Now I just want to finish that darn short story once and for all (hopefully this week) and move onto my next book (although I'm looking at a 4 month deadline for that so maybe I should try this, lol)

Thanks for the luck, J.K.!
And much luck on your project. I'm positive you'll make your four month deadline, and that the book will be awesome! If you decide to do Book In A Week ,at any point, let me know and I'll be your own personal cheer squad!

I'm totally rooting for you. I'd love to hibernate for a week and smack out 200 pages. You can do it!

Good luck to you all!

I have too many distractions in my life to think about doing this, but I wish you the best if you can find the uninterrupted time. :)

Keep us posted all three of you!

Thanks Marnee! You're the best!

Good luck Kelly! I know you'll love it, simply because you'll learn so much about yourself as a writer! :)

Thanks Gillian! I am loving this writing time. And I'm learning a lot about myself as a writer.
